When dealing in the world of prequels, it’s impossible to escape the inevitable - Anakin will fall, Han will win the Falcon, Cassian will die on Scarif. Somehow, in the midst of some of the most thrilling episodes of television ever put to screen, Tony Gilroy and his team found a way to address that impending doom and weaponize it against the audience to induce some of the most gut wrenching and heart breaking moments we’ve yet to see on ‘Andor’ - “There’s some place he needs to be”. At a larger scale, the show continues to outdo itself on a weekly basis, proving that the Star Wars galaxy provides a colour pallet of some of the richest hues from which to paint bold and personal stories. Proving you can go beyond the larger than life stories of heroics and grandeur to human stories of loss and pain and everything in between. That’s without mentioning the deft touch in pulling in themes that resonates with the contemporary while remaining timeless - a feeling that is a staple of Star Wars. Every detail is considered, every character is deep and interesting. There isn’t much more that can be said about such a powerful piece of art, except that not even the audience can escape the inevitable - only one week remains of this masterpiece.

I'm sorry to tell you all, but we're already halfway through this final season of 'Andor'. Fortunately, the quality hasn't dipped one bit as we accelerate into the finish. Join Julian and Rachel as they savour every minute of this 3-episode arch that takes us to Ghorman for the first time on screen. Tony Gilroy and the team at Lucasfilm outdid themselves yet again in crafting every detail. The size of the set alone is impressive, but they take it a step further by developing a unique culture and even language different from anything we've seen in Star Wars before. It all fits seamlessly into this next chapter of the story that has a heavy emphasis on spycraft as the pressure ramps up for both the Rebellion and the Empire.

SSSW - Andor S2 Premiere
It's been a long time since Cassian Andor and his band of Rebel compatriots has graced our TV screens. A long hiatus, no doubt, but when you look into WHY this second season took so long the reason becomes clear - they were dotting every "i" and crossing every "t" (along with dealing with the writers and actors strikes, growing and harvesting ancient grains, hand stitching wedding dresses, the list goes on...) to make sure that this isn't just good Star Wars, but indeed the maybe the BEST Star Wars (I'm partially convinced that it may be the best we may ever get actually). Season 2 roars to life in it's first of four, 3-episode drops (essentially a movie a week for a month), not wasting any time picking up with our characters a year after the events of season 1. The sheer scale, scope, and commitment to its heavy themes is laudable, but when combined with the masterful set design, costuming, writing, and acting, you can't help but to stare, mouth agape, at this singular piece bold storytelling, that will likely go down as Tony Gilroy's largest contribution to popular culture, and deservedly so. SSSW - The Bad Batch S3E7 “The Clone Conspiracy” + S2E8 “Truth and Consequences”
This season of 'The Bad Batch' has been a real rollercoaster. The highs of "The Solitary Clone" to the lows of episodes like "Faster". This week, the show once again elevated itself with a 2-episode drop that feels like a spiritual sequel to the great 'The Clone Wars' episode "Clone Conspiracy". In fact, the first part of this 2-part story arch, aptly named "The Clone Conspiracy", doesn't even feature our titular characters. These 2 episodes also felt like a great companion piece to last year's 'Andor' as we focus again on political intrigue and dangerous secrets. The tension is palpable and the presence of returning characters feel natural in this given situation. But the biggest revelation is that we finally have a clear understanding of the fate of the clones. There's still plenty to explore in this show, but after these 2 episodes, it has easily justified its status as must-watch Star Wars.

As the calendar flips to a new year it's always nice to look back at the best-of-the best from the last 12 months. It's become a highly prestigious tradition here at Tower of Babble - 6 years running. Therefor, as is tradition, the ToB hosts, Julian, Jeremy, and Rachel, gather together to discuss their top 3 ranked favorites in film and television from 2022. If you've been listening (or watching live!) throughout the last year, some of these picks might be predictable. SSSW - Andor S1E12 "Rix Road"
What a season of television! 'Andor' is easily one of the best shows of the year, regardless of genre, but it changed the game for Star Wars. Tony Gilroy laid the gauntlet, and is now stepping back into the shadows as he prepares to wow us again with season 2. Which, unfortunately, will likely be over a year away. In the meantime, we can revisit the masterpiece that is this first season. A season that was capped off with a finale befitting the rest of the show. Without changing the formula at the last second, it held onto exactly what is was, delivering not one, but arguably three rousing speeches (with special shoutout to Marva posthumously. Twice!), but also delivering the goods with a visceral, and violent, climactic set piece. The quality of this series, from the writing, to the effects, and performances, it has all been top notch, and deserving of a moment of recognition. As a whole, it's something very special that doesn't come around often. Bravo to everyone who worked on 'Andor', we all impatiently await the continuation of Cassian's story. No pressure.

SSSW - Andor S1E11 "Daughter of Ferrix"
One episode left! The level of quality on 'Andor' has been so high, the show so engrossing, the final episode for this nearly perfect first season feels like it's coming way too fast. We spend much of this penultimate episode moving the pieces into position for a what is shaping up to be a thrilling finale. All roads lead to Ferrix. With Marva's tragic passing pulling all the key players, including the titular, newly escaped, Cassian into a trap that is being laid by the ISB. Meanwhile, Syril has fallen off the wagon and is heading to Ferrix as well. Mon Mothma continues to struggle with her financial troubles, and with Leita leaning further into traditional Chandrillan customs, she may very well have the decision on Davo Sculden's offer made for her, despite her massive reservations. We also see Saw again, as he and Luthen grapple with the moral implications of sacrificing Anto Krieger and his men, in what is easily the best scene of the episode. The stage is set, buckle up, everything comes to a head next week.

SSSW - Andor S1E10 "One Way Out"
Defying all odds, this show continues to get better every week. With the conclusion of the heist arch, and the weight of expectations it carried, it was impressive how well it managed to stick the landing. Now four episodes removed from that dramatic escape from Aldhani, we've reached the end of the prison arch. Not only does the show deliver an epic payoff to an escape we knew was coming, it did so while layering in deep character moments for Andor, an unforgettable speech from Luthen, and a heart-pounding exchange between Mon and a mobster. This is something special folks. Buckle up, we're in the final stretch, as we move into a 2-episode mini-arch to finish the season.

SSSW - Andor S1E9 "Nobody's Listening!"
We're two-thirds of the way through this prison arch and once again the tension is palpable. Every scene drips with suspense - which is quite the feat considering we already know the fate of many of these characters. It's a testament to the quality of the storytelling that the show is able to create such dramatic weight in a prequel setting. We watch as Andor slowly puts an escape plan in place, while we cut back and forth to the ISB as they continue to close the noose on the Rebels. We also learn an interesting connection between Mon Mothma and Vel, while Syril slips further into fantasy land as he stalks Dedra on Coruscant.
