Now that we’ve all flipped over our calendars to 2019 Julian and Jeremy figured it would be a good idea to sit down and discuss the state of the Nintendo Switch. It will have been on the market for 2 years in March, and so as the console moves into it’s “terrible twos” the guys take a moment to look back at the good ol’ days, as well as examine how it stacks up today, and even what’s in store for the future. Are there enough good games? Is online worth 20 bucks a year? Is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a game changer for the console? After a week off the ToB Crew returns refreshed and ready to break down all the latest geek news. They jump right in by discussing the latest movie trailers, including the highly anticipated Scarlett Johansson film Ghost in the Shell. Every week brings new comic book movie news so Julian Meush, Daniel D'Souza and Jeremy Kozier examine the rumour of Green Lantern possibly making an appearance in next years Justice League film, David Leitch taking over Deadpool 2 and why we may never see the X-Men in the same movie as the Avengers. Over with Star Wars, it was revealed that Josh Trank's Star Wars anthology film was going to centre around Boba Fett, Emilia Clark joins the cast of the Han Solo film and early tracking numbers are looking good for Rogue One. Before moving onto the news of the big Inhumans TV/IMAX deal the guys discuss the potential future of "variable ticket pricing" at the movie theatre and why it might not be the worst thing in the world. In terms of gaming news, the Wii U has reached the end of its life so its time for its eulogy and then to look forward to the Switch and a possible price point for the hybrid handheld/home console. A brief spoiler review of Arrival wraps up the show along with a brief discussion on The Master, The Theory of Everything, The Edge and The Accountant.

Welcome to another episode of The Tower of Babble Podcast. Julian, Daniel and Jeremy are once again here to help unpack the latest in geek news. Some of the big stories on the docket this week: more Disney live action remakes, a producer says we probably wont see a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3, the Uncharted movie gets a new director, Brian Fuller leaves Star Trek: Discovery and Nintendo stops production of the Wii U. The guys also take a deep dive into the state of superhero movies as we learn that The Flash has lost its director, which comes hot off the heels of Deadpool 2 having lost its director less than two weeks prier. They examine what the future might hold for Nintendo if the Switch fails and cap off the show discussing what everyone has been playing or watching. With Julian returning to the island the guys get together one last time before he leaves. We recap all the superhero TV news including Gotham, Arrow and The Flash while we theorize over how the CW Universe and Supergirl might crossover. We touch on what's going on with Nintendo and discuss the success of Amiibo, Mario Maker, Pokemon and their console future. Of course we cover the latest film news and rumours, including Wonder Woman, Dr Strange, BvS, Civil War and we add more evidence to support Julian's "Cap is going to Die" theory. It wouldn't be a ToB without a couple Star Wars discussion and we don't disappoint as we talk rumours, the best sequence to watch the films and more. We have really great discussions about the future of VR (again), whats next for Naughty Dog and Uncharted as well as why Dan and Jeremy love The Wire so much. Finally, The Emmys also happened while we were away and we debate the merits of the winners, particularly Mad Men vs Game of Thrones. Of course none of this is in any particular order but we hope you enjoy it all the same.

The whole ToB crew is back to discuss all the big news out of San Diego Comicon, including the Star Wars panel, X-Men and a bit of extra emphasis on the new Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad trailers. We break down each trailer into all its juicy bits and try to piece together what little information we got about the new DC Cinematic Universe (DCCU). Of course we would be remiss if we didn't mention the passing of video game legend and Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata. We look at the impact his lose will have on Nintendo moving forward and take a few minutes to reflect on his career. Finally, we close out the show reviewing the latest entry in the Terminator franchise which sees Arnold return to the iconic role of the T-800 (possibly for the last time).

An exciting year wherein next generation Sony and Microsoft consoles established their first of what we hope will be at least a 10-year life cycle. With the PS4 and Xbox One pushing the envelope with powerful hardware, a robust online infrastructure and blockbuster titles, we couldn't help but evaluate the state of the Wii U.

SSSW - Maul: Shadow Lord - Chapter 9 & 10 / Season Finale

There it is, folks - the season finale to the latest creation from Lucasfilm Animation. It was certainly gorgeous to look at, with the new painterly stylings, and there was no shortage of thrilling action to sink your teeth into, nor did they skimp on the stakes. But while the season started off on a welcomed unfamiliar foot, by the end of this season, and certainly in these final two episodes, the hallmarks of what we've come to know from Star Wars animation showed their head. Early on, the admitted inspirations from films such as 'Heat' and 'The Dark Knight', provided a needed grit to a show which was ostensibly following a villain. This provided the show with a fresh personality - distinguishing itself from it's predecessors in animation. Unfortunately, the creatives couldn't seem to maintain that tone, as by this two-part season finale the old tropes and predictable beats of 'Clone Wars' rose into prominence. And while the appearance of a certain fan favourite character adds some very cool action, the unoriginality from a narrative perspective robbed the final moments of the needed pathos and drama required to land the plane in the most satisfying of ways.

SSSW - Maul: Shadow Lord - Chapter 7 & 8

There's two of them now?! With the arrival of another Inquisitor things really start to escalate on Janyx. We see Maul at his lowest since probably his spider-leg days (he goes on a self-guided therapy session/vision quest that results in something quite inspiring actually!), providing us a deeper understanding of his motivations, beyond simply "revenge!". Meanwhile, Devon continues to be the most interesting character on the show as she takes two steps forward, one step back, flirting with the dark side (though bonus points for the slick ride she acquires for their getaway). On the action side, the show continues to bring the goods, with dynamic, large scale battles (heavy on LAATs which is always a treat), intimate lightsaber combat, and a special shout out to the speeder chase this week that included a new Star Wars techno track (get outta here Niamos!), which combined for a chef's kiss of a sequence. The finale is next week, dropping on Star Wars Day (May the 4th), so stay tuned to see how much the show wants to tie up and how much it wants to leave dangling ahead of season 2!

Episode 205 - CinemaCon 2026 + News Roundup

It's been a minute since Matt and Julian sat down to cover the latest in film and TV news. Some might say it's been dearly missed. Well wait no more folks because this week it's all news and nothing but the news so help me god! If the last few weeks (months?) of stories weren't enough, CinemaCon 2026 also just concluded which had it's own news deluge. The guys unpack it all (well most of it anyway)! Of utmost priority is the news of Michael B Jordan and Austin Butler's reboot of 'Miami Vice', which is close to Matt's heart. Plus 'Spaceballs 2' gets a title and release date, trailers for 'Dune 3', 'Clayface' and 'Street Fighter' all surprise (in a good way), and a new 'Lord of the Rings' movie is announced (and you won't guess who's writing it!). Plus, a 'Game of Thrones' movie, more 'Transformers' and is 'Avatar' over? All this and so much more on this week's Tower of Babble Podcast!

SSSW - Maul: Shadow Lord - Chapter 5 & 6

We’ve reached the halfway point of the season and with it comes a tonal shift back to the roots of Star Wars animation - 'The Clone Wars'. With the arrival of the Empire, the focus shifts away from Maul and his dealings and toward the pair of Jedi as they are now in the crosshairs. The noire tone takes a back seat, next to Maul, as things become more pulpy, mixed with an impending doom that is reminiscent of the final season of 'The Clone Wars'. The set-piece action sequences get an injection of scale and danger, which is exciting, and some of the early seeding of characters like Rylee start to pay off. While maybe a bit different from the previous 4 episodes, the quality and the stakes remain high (well... for every character except Maul I suppose). Join Julian and Rachel as the unpack it all in excruciating detail.
