Episode 74 - Comicon 2016

Julian Meush July 27, 2016

This week the ToB Crew gathered to discuss all things San Diego Comicon. SDCC was this past weekend and there's almost too much to cover in one show. But before we get into all the nerdy news from the con we wanted to try out a new segment. We're pitting host against host in a word association challenge. After the game we moved into the deluge that is Comicon 2016 coverage. Starting with movies we break down the Justice League and Wonder Woman footage plus everything else from DC and Marvel. We then move into some leftover Star Wars news from last weeks Star Wars Celebrations in London. There was also a whole slew of TV shows to cover as we discussed another heaping amount of trailers, including: CW's The Flash Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, Marvel's Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders and even DC's new animated series Justice League Action. We wrap things up talking about a few gaming related stories, not the least of which being Pokemon GO and Nintendo's NES Classic.

Its been a slow couple of weeks after E3 stole the show. But we've managed to scrape together stories from across the internets and put together another great ToB Podcast for you. Julian Daniel and Jeremy sit down and discuss all things nerdy, starting with the "mea culpa" set visit that WB put together for DC's upcoming blockbuster; Justice League. After that, there'salways some Star Wars news so we breakdown some of the news that came out of EW's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story exposé before moving on to a whole slew of DC CW news. Not the least of which being the casting of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and the confirmation of Flash Point. We also breakdown all the latest renewals and cancellations across the TV landscape before wrapping up with a chat about the worldwide phenomenon that is Pokemon Go!

ToB Interlude - DC Comics Rebirth

Julian Meush July 11, 2016

Its been a few weeks since all three members of the ToB Crew have put out a show. What with all the Game of Thrones finales and our YouTube account termination hubbub. But this week we make good on a promise we made a few weeks back. Julian, Dan and Jeremy are here to discuss DC Comics Rebirth in all its glory. We review issue 1 of Rebirth, breakdown what it means for the DCU and then meander into a discussion about DC's film slate. This episode is also a bit more free form than others as it follows an "after show" format that picks up after our E3 2016 episode.

Julian and Dan are back for a Game of Thrones Season Six Bonus Episode! After last week's finale there was so much to discuss we couldn't fit it all into one episode. So this week we're here to recap all the main storylines from season six, answer a bunch of questions from the listeners and look ahead at season seven. We also give our predictions on where all our favorite characters will end up and examine the list of directors who will be helming the (possible) penultimate season.

Game of Thrones S6E9 "Battle of the Bastards": ToB Breakdown

Julian Meush June 21, 2016

It's that time of year again. The traditionally epic episode nine for the latest season of Game of Thrones is upon us and it's a doozy! "Battle of the Bastards" was billed as the largest battle Game of Thrones has ever put to screen and it surpassed all of our expectations. It may very well be the most impressive battle of this scale ever seen on television period, let alone just on Game of Thrones. But it wouldn't be GoT if they didn't throw in a curveball or two. We all expected a clash in the North but how many of thought you'd see some dragons rain down fire from the sky as well? Bet you didn't see that coming! Or that Jon would make some terrible strategic mistakes? Well maybe that one was easier to predict. That being said, as amazing as the spectacle was, there were some important story and character developments to explore and Julian Meush and Daniel D'Souza are here to unpack it all and delve into every detail of this nearly perfect hour of television.

Game of Thrones S6E8 "No One": ToB Breakdown

Julian Meush June 13, 2016

The ToB Crew sit down to discuss the latest episode of HBO's Game of Thrones. Season six, episode eight: "No One", is quick to squash a few fan theories and moves the remaining pieces into position for next week's massive "Battle of the Bastards". The whole affair is jam packed with a lot of fun moments but it's the emotional beats that stood out the most. Particularly one scene between Jamie and Edmure, who finally gets some dialogue that is well worth the wait. Tyrion gets to tell some jokes before his plans come crashing down. Arya fights back against The Waif. Cersei plans hit a significant roadblock. The Hound goes hunting while Brienne and Jamie have a touching reunion. We dissect every detail while untangling the web of theories and predictions surrounding the approaching season six finale.

Game of Thrones S6E7 "The Broken Man": ToB Breakdown

Julian Meush June 7, 2016

The ToB crew is back to unpack the season's seventh episode "The Broken Man"; another somewhat slower but still enjoyable episode. The titular character monopolizes the episode, though there is still room for Jon and Sansa to go on a recruiting spree, the High Sparrow to target the Queen of Thorns, also, Jaime arrives at Riverrun to offer terms, Cersei admits her mistakes, and Arya discovers just how dangerous Braavos can be.

SSSW - Kathleen Kennedy Steps Down
Feb 12, 2026

There have been rumours circulating for years about the eventual retirement of Kathleen Kennedy from her role as President of Lucasfilm. Never mind the seemingly constant swirling demands for her head from segments of the fan base. And while those rumours and demands may have felt at times unwarranted, they were nevertheless always going to be right... eventually. Kathleen Kennedy, after 14 years as head of the studio announced that she would be stepping down and returning to a more traditional producer role, and her successors would be Dave Filoni on the creative side, and Lynwen Brennan on the business side. Julian and Rachel unpack the announcement, the press coverage, and even Kennedy's exit interview with Deadline, reading between the lines and trying to get a read on her legacy. As well as examining what life might be like under Filoni as Star Wars enters a new era under his watch. Plus, a check-in on 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' following the underwhelming Super Bowl spot.

Episode 204 - Oscar Noms + 2026 Predictions
Jan 26, 2026

As noted by the recent Tobies, awards season continues in full flight, so it's no surprise to have The Oscars drop their nominations just in time for Matt and Julian to break them down. 'Sinners' taking home 16 noms sets an Oscars record and (more importantly) validates Julian's recent Tobie pick. Plus, the guys return to a more traditional news format with headlines about James Bond, Game of Thrones, He-Man and more! Finally, the guys look into their crystal balls, gazing into the future, to make entertainment-based predictions for the year 2026. How will the WB/Netflix deal play out? Will Star Wars have a hit with 'The Mandalorian and Grogu'? Will Nolan's 'The Odyssey' be as big as 'Oppenheimer'? Only the ToB hosts can tell you! (No future lotto tickets or sports almanacs unfortunately)

Jan 19, 2026

With the Golden Globes holding their annual ceremony last week, it signals only one thing - it’s AWARD SEASON BABY! And of course, when one thinks of the most prestigious awards in entertainment, of course names like Oscar, Tony, and Emmy might come to mind. But held on equal footing with those self-congratulatory titans is of course the name Tobie. That’s right y’all THE TOBIES ARE BACK for another go around at the top three best movies and shows of year. And while there may be a new host in the rotation, the format and the prestige remain unchanged. Join Julian and now Matt to explore what, upon reflection, was a pretty damn good year for visual storytelling on both the big and small screens.

SSSW - Year in Review 2025 + Visions Vol 3
Jan 5, 2026

With the back half of 2025 being relatively quiet from a Star Wars perspective, it's hard to remember that 'Andor' wrapped up it's two season run and blew us all away THIS year. Never mind that 'Skeleton Crew' also wrapped up in 2025! Julian and Rachel, using the help of this handy Starwars.com article as reference, look back at the year that was in Star Wars. Overall, despite things slowing down content-wise, 'Andor' alone makes it a stellar year, and with new movies on the horizon and a new animated series set to drop in 2026, there's still plenty to be excited about going forward. If that wasn't enough, join us as we explore 'Star Wars: Visions - Volume III', posing the question: has the Star Wars anime concept run it's course?
