The look back at 2020 continues as the ToB Crew discuss their top 3 favourite games from the previous year. Just like the movie and TV categories the rules are a little loosey goosey. That being said, there are a few key titles that can't be ignored. ToB Games - More Smash Characters

It seems that the ToB Crew only get time to talk games when Nintendo has an announcement. What a nice confidence! In a surprise Direct, Nintendo announced that SNES games were headed to Nintendo Online (Launching with some heavy hitters like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Super Metroid, just to name a few), Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury joins the Smash roster (complete with an awesome pixel art intro!), and most importantly, that even though there is only 1 character left to reveal in the “fighters pack”, that even more characters would be joining the Smash roster after that!

If you follow the video game world, even from a distance, you know that E3 is like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and your birthday all combined for the those in the games business. With it comes exciting new announcements, sizzle reels, reveals, and surprises. Regardless of what types of games you’re into, there’s always something to get excited about. This year, with Sony, and other major players pulling out, it seemed like the show might lack some of it’s luster. Fortunately, there was still a lot to get excited about. Not the least of which being the Avengers game from Sqaure Enix, a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the first game play of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, plus the surprising new character announcements for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. ToB Games - The State of the Switch

Now that we’ve all flipped over our calendars to 2019 Julian and Jeremy figured it would be a good idea to sit down and discuss the state of the Nintendo Switch. It will have been on the market for 2 years in March, and so as the console moves into it’s “terrible twos” the guys take a moment to look back at the good ol’ days, as well as examine how it stacks up today, and even what’s in store for the future. Julian, Daniel and Jeremy have had a lot of time to think about what they had to say about the Nintendo Switch announcement, the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer and, what turned out to be one of the most pleasant of the surprises, the Logan trailer. Of course it doesn't stop there with another exciting instalment of Nerd Association as well as some great Star Wars discussions about the casting of Donald Glover as a a young Lando Calrissian. Episode 63 - A Little Bit of Everything

With all three guys back together the ToB Crew touch on a little bit of everything this episode. Starting with Star Wars (of course) Jeremy finally gives his impressions on the latest Star Wars trailer and spend some time discussing the latest news bits from a galaxy far far away. In terms of other film news the guys break down the Warcraft trailer that came out of Blizzcon as well as some news and rumours surrounding the next solo Batman film and a possible Witcher movie in the works. On the television front the full Jessica Jones trailer is discussed and talk about the latest with The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl. There were also some video game stories to discuss, not the least of which being all of the announcements out of the latest Nintendo Direct, including: FFVII's Cloud joining Smash Bros, Twilight Princess getting an HD remaster and a few tidbits from the next full Zelda game. They also touch on the new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer and some of the big releases coming up. As per the norm, the guys finish off discussing what they've been watching and playing over the last few weeks.

SSSW - Maul: Shadow Lord - Chapter 1 & 2

It's been some time since we've been able to sink our pointy teeth into a meaty Star Wars animated project. Since the finale of 'The Bad Batch' all the way back in May of 2024, all we've had to tie us over were anthology installments of varying quality. Praise the Force, that wait is finally over with the release of 'Maul: Shadow Lord', the latest full length series from Lucasfilm Animation. The series marks another technical leap forward for the animation studio, taking their patented visual style and adding another layer of detail and artistry that jumps off the screen. The story follows the titular, Maul shortly after the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire, he's looking for revenge and the series wastes no time dropping us right into the thick of things (3 car/speeder chases in 40 mins is impressive). And while we know much of Maul's criminal dealings (and most of the rest of his life actually), the introduction of a new Padawan into the mix, another apprentice-to-be for Maul, adds a layer of intrigue to an otherwise underworld focused story. Join Julian and Rachel as they unpack Chapter 1: "The Dark Revenge" and Chapter 2: "Sinister Schemes", in intricate detail.

Bonus Episode - ToB Film Club - Slap Shot (1977) - Review + Commentary Track

In honour of Matt strapping on the goalie pads again for the first time in many years (and not completely pulling his groin), it only made sense to revisit the classic hockey comedy, 'Slap Shot' from 1977. This isn't the first time seeing the movie for either Julian or Matt but it's been a long time so there are plenty of questions still to answer. Here's a few examples: How well shot are the hockey scenes? Does the movie feature more or less actual hockey than 'Heated Revelry'? Does the plot and/or humour hold up all these years later? All these questions are answered in time, but we're also trying something new this month. Instead of a traditional movie review, Julian and Matt decided to go a layer deeper and add a full commentary track for the movie as well. So enjoy the full review, which takes place, before, during, and after the movie itself, and sync up your own copy of the movie (there's a countdown before we start) to get the full experience!

Julian is back from vacation just in time or the 98th Academy Awards! Airing tomorrow (Match 15th), hosted once again by Conan O’Brien, it’s the most prestigious night in Hollywood (after the Tobies of course). This is Matt’s first time on the preview show, so the format is tweaked a bit from our traditional reviews of Oscar noms, though there is still some of that. A broader approach is taken, with a larger focus on the ceremony itself, a peak at the front runners in each category, as well as the betting odds. It’s not all new-school though, find Julian’s traditional “will win”/’want to win” ballots below (Matt will put his together privately) for those curious. Lastly, look for a follow-up show discussing the ceremonies, unpacking the winners, and scoring the ballots next week. Until then, grab your tux, hit the red carpet, rub elbows with the celebs, and enjoy the 2026 Oscars!
